Fresh Sewing Day

March was a fab month for me.  I had so many wonderful experiences, learnt so many new things and had a few makes too, sometimes it's easy to forget just how much you've achieved in 4 weeks. So for the first time in ages, I'm linking up with Fresh Sewing Day to remind myself how busy I've been!

First was the last day of teaching my Beginners Quilting Class.   Here they are hard at work :-)

Shortly after that I attended a 2 day FMQ and Trapunto workshop with the wonderfully talented and inspirational Philippa Naylor.  If you want to see quilts of the highest order, check out her website.  You won't be disappointed.  

Less than a week later it was the Jersey Textile Showcase, and I went to workshops with textile artist Ineke Berlyn, and local textile artist Christine Witham. I made a lovely Lutrador tulip collage with Ineke, and a sunflower with Christine.  It was so much fun turning my hand to new skills, which definitely had a floral theme going on!

I also made 5 Super Hero capes for my daughter's class, which you can read about here.

There's a couple of other makes that I can't share with you yet, but I did have lots of fun making some Amy Butler Economy Blocks...

I've made good progress on my son's Robot Medallion Quilt...

And I've been putting my Wee Wander fabrics by Sarah Jane to good use too...progress update coming soon!

So if I'm feeling exhausted after March, I guess it's no wonder.  Will April be a quieter month?  I wouldn't have thought so!!

Fresh Sewing Day

Another month has whizzed by, and as usual there's too many projects and not enough time.  But it's been a good month, with a  day trip to London (you can read about it here) to visit both the Tate Modern and the Kaffe Fasset A Life in Colour Exhibition and a few finishes as well.  

 

I think a collage is in order.

 

I finished my Anchors Away Quilt, made some nautical bunting for my friend's son's first birthday and I've completed my I Heart NY quilt top.  This picture doesn't really show the scale of it.  It's bigger than a cot quilt and the squares are 3" x 3".  So it took a while to chain piece all 234 of them!  But I did it in just over a week and  it's now basted and ready for quilting. 

 

 

 

I've also bought far more fabric than I should have this month.  Starting with this gorgeous collection called Asbury. 

 

One day this will make a stunning quilt, but for now I've made some bunting to put on my display at The Harbour Gallery. 

 

And while I was at Liberty in London I bought these wonderfully retro fabrics.  I can't tell you how much I am in love with them, especially the button prints.  For me, purchasing fabric in person rather than the internet is just such a treat (there's not a decent fabric shop here in Jersey). I loved being able to audition fabrics in person, rather than having to flick between internet pages, use my imagination and hope for the best!

 

 

And most recently I have fallen in love with these fabrics by Carina Gardiner. 

 

 

The plan is to use these to make a divided basket, following a Noodlehead pattern. Ideally, in time for the Fat Quarterly Retreat.  But I am working on a couple of commissions at the moment, along with my New York quilt (which is for me) so I am just hoping I will have time.  July's ages away right??!

 

Finally, I will leave you of a picture of Jersey.  On the Bank Holiday we discovered a gorgeous new viewpoint, that we hadn't come across before.  We had a lovely picnic and the sky was clear blue, as you can see.  I didn't even have to edit this photo, these are the true colours.  If you ever come to Jersey you must go there!

It's May today!

I say it every month, and I'll say it again, where did that last month go?!  May already!  Let's hope that it brings the promise of Spring and ekk, dare I say it, even a hint of Summer?  Some sunshine and warmth for a continued period of time would be amazing!! 

 

April was a busy month.  For any new readers, it started of really well for me, with a little trip to Lucerne in Switzerland with one of my friends.  I won the flights in a competition, so it was a great excuse for a little mini break, and we had a awesome time. 

 

 

I even managed to do a little EPP on the train, using my Summersville Spring fabrics.

 

 

And I found some EPP inspiration on the floor of the hotel restaurant, of all places.  (Sorry, not the best picture, the important businessmen having their breakfast were probably wondering why a girl was taking a photo of the floor, so I had to be quick!)

 

 

 

The other exciting news last month was that I now have my quilts and bunting on display at a lovely little place called The Harbour Gallery.  You can read about it in more detail here.

Phew, that was a busy month!  I wonder what May will bring?  As well as finishing quilting my Anchors Away quilt I have another in the pipeline...I can't wait to share it with you.
