2013 - A Year in Review Part 1

2013 has been a splendid year.  So it seems only fitting to write a year in review, and reflect on all the things I've made, all the wonderful people I've met and all the fantastic times I've had.  It's hard to know where to start with such a mammoth task, but I think first I'll start with my makes. 

 

As you may know I make quilts and other items for my little business Quilt Candy, so here are all the quilts I've made this year, roughly in chronological order.

I'll admit, it's not as many quilts as I would like, but that's partly because I have been super busy making personalised bunting too - something that has proved really popular.  Here are some examples of the bunting I've made, often many times but with different names. 

 I was also lucky enough to have a stand at The Harbour Gallery in the summer months.

The small items in particular proved very popular; I never imagined having to make so many chickens!

I also had great fun  making lots of quilted journal covers. 

 

 

I did have big plans to make personalised stockings.  But sadly there was just not enough time.   But I did manage to finish my WIP of six years, my Christmas Stocking Cross Stitch.

And I even managed to make some Christmas gift tags, both for my children and a few orders :-)

 

When I look back, I feel so lucky to have had the opportunity to achieve all I have in this last year.  All those late nights at the sewing machine; all those mornings where I've felt like a zombie have all been worth it when I think of all the things I've made and hopefully the happiness I've brought to their owners. 

I've also had so many wonderful quilting related experiences, more than I could have ever imagined, and made SO many new friends.  I can't wait to re-cap them all with you.  But I think I'll save that for another post.

Kaffe Fassett A Life in Colour - Part 1

Yesterday's post was all about my trip to London with my friend Sarah, (if you missed it you can read about it here ) and I promised that I would share some photos of the Kaffe Fassett Exhibition, called A Life in Colour at the Fashion and Textiles Museum in Bermondsey. 

 

Well I looked through my trusty Iphone and realised that I have just so many photos, I think I am going to have to write several posts! 

 

So this post is about the downstairs part of the exhibition, which mainly features the wonderful quilts.  I have done my best with the photos; it was difficult to photograph some of them as many were up high, and I'm vertically challenged at the best of times.  But I think you will get a good idea of just how amazing they are.

Which one's your favourite?  I love them all but I do particularly love the second to last one, which you can also see in the corner of the photo above on the right hand side.  Isn't his fabric just fabulous, I just love that all his work is such a riot of colour. 

 

So much inspiration here, and what a talented man!

I'm at the Gallery

I am so excited to announce that I am going to have a display of my quilts at The Harbour Gallery in St Aubin, Jersey, Channel Islands.

It's a wonderful place, filled to the brim with artwork, photography, ceramics, hand made gifts, furniture, art and textile supplies, and as of this weekend, ekk, my quilts!   

As you walk in you are greeted with a huge choice of work to admire

 Here are a few photos of my display, which is currently brightening up my kitchen ;-)

It's going to be on the left hand side as you walk up the stairs of the first floor, so I thought it would be a good idea to paint the logo on the side to make it stand out.  Let's just say I won't be swapping needle and thread for paints and a paintbrush again in a hurry!

I wanted to have some smaller items available as well at the quilts, and I have lots of ideas for new products in the future too.

Of course I have put my postcards on display, and I hope people will take one and get in touch with me again.

Here's my Vintage India Quilt, that was awarded a Silver in the Channel Islands Eisteddfod. 

And here's my Walk in the Woods Quilt.

I thought these chickens would make my display bright, cheerful and most of all fun!

And here's my Happy Drawing Quilt and French General Quilt which I have decided to name 'Times gone By'. 

I can't wait to share more of my experiences of the Harbour Gallery.  I'll try and take a few photos on Saturday and show you around some more.  It really is a wonderful, eclectic mix of talent.  Oh and did I mention there's a café??!  I am sure to be popping in there every time I visit.  ;-)
