WIP Wednesday

This is probably the oldest WIP I possess - a stocking cross stitch, that to the untrained eye is already complete.

I started this back in 2007, and although it's taken me 6 years so far, actually I did the whole thing in 3 months bar the last few stitches.  It's hard to tell from this photo, but I decided to cover the whole cross stitch in teeny, tiny glass beads.  It adds such a lovely dimension, but can you guess what happened... yes I ran out of beads just as I was coming to the end.  And instead of hunting down some more, I put it in a draw and forgot about it until now.

So I'm pleased to say I have now ordered some more of the exact same beads on ebay, for the bargain price of £2.50.  It took me all of 5 minutes to hunt them down and place the order.  I don't know why it's taken me so long to do it!

I'm determined to get it finished and framed before Christmas Day.  There really is not a lot to do, it's just a few beads in the bottom right hand corner.

Watch this space!

  2. Beautiful - I haven't done any cross stitching since I discovered quilting but lots of people are picking it up again at the moment - you are very brave to be adding so many beads! Good luck getting it finished!

  3. Beautiful. I have two cross stitch stockings that have been unfinished WiPs for a very long time. One of these years I will get back to them - I think I've loss my cross stitch mojo at the moment.

  4. So cute!!!! If I had started that it wouldn't have made it past the first block, and then stuffed in a drawer for eternity! ;) Good job pulling it out and sharing it!

  5. Beautiful! Do you sew it into a real stocking or are you going to frame it?

  6. There is nothing more wonderful than completing a cross stitch project. It's one of my passions as well. Beading the whole thing is quite the task to take on. Good work.

  7. That is exactly the sort of thing I would do. Well, not the cross stitch, the putting away and ignoring for six years. It is beautiful and deserves to be finished.

  9. Yes, definitely deserves to be finished and shouldn't be long by the sounds of it! It's a lovely stocking and the beading is perfect.

  10. The Xmas stocking is delightful. Well done of finishing it. Isn't it funny, how many of us start our stitching journey with cross stitch. I still have a vintage sampler to finish and get the odd hankering to do a bit.

  17. Very beautiful! I love cross stitch and appreciate the time that goes into finishing something like this. That is so something I would do, have a tanty right near the end, throw it in a cupboard and really it wouldn't have taken long to finish.
